Kid’s Photography Summer Camp

Savant Photography is hosting a summer camp for second through sixth graders to learn the basics of using a digital camera.

The camp will be held June 22nd-26th from 9 a.m. to noon and will give campers the opportunity to better understand how to use their camera, framing, composition and the use of natural light.

“For a young person just getting into photography, this is a great opportunity for them to get comfortable with their camera and be well on their way to being a talented photographer,” Leslie Kitten, owner and photographic artist for Savant Photography, said.

This camp will also feature an afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. about making videos with a mobile device.  This will include finding great content for a video and editing the video with the Magisto app.

Each session is $150 with an early registration (before June 5th) cost of $250 for both sessions.  Children in both sessions may bring a sack lunch and eat at the studio.

Those interested in registering in the camp should contact Cody Trimble at

Photo I

Last semester I taught Photo I and Photo II in the College of Mass Communications at Texas Tech. This class was so great. One day for class we went to Chili’s for lunch. That’s right, the whole class. Although it seemed like we were just goofing off, we had a great lesson on window light and exposing right for indoor situations. Everyone had to photograph their food before they ate it. Here are a few of my favorites from the archives!
